Camp Scholarship Program
bbbs pattern
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region continues to strive to provide Littles enrolled in our programs with opportunities to further enrich their lives. That’s why we’re excited to offer a camp scholarship program with funding support from the Katherine Nehil Dexter’s Kate’s Camp for Kids scholarship fund.

Camp experiences enhance independence, social skills and self-confidence. It is our hope that all interested Littles be granted at least one camp experience while enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs.

How To Apply

Familiarize yourself with the criteria below before applying. This year, we strongly encourage you to apply online below, but you can give us a call at 844.4BE.ABIG for alternative options. Please submit all applications no later than Friday, May 27, 2022.

Criteria

  • Littles who have never gone to summer camp through our scholarship program will be given priority over those who have already attended camp.
  • Littles enrolled in a BBBS program may participate in one summer scholarship program for a total of two years. Once a child has been to camp for two summers, priority will be given to other children, based on available funding.
  • Summer camp experiences that are educational in nature and provide for academic, athletic, musical/theatrical and special skills will be given priority.
  • If scholarships are available through the camp, parents must make every effort to apply for the scholarship and inform BBBS if a scholarship has been awarded. BBBS will then pay the difference between the actual cost and the scholarship value.
  • After we receive your inquiry, you will be contacted with more information, and asked to fill out a camp agreement form. All Camp Agreement Forms must be done in person.
  • Unless BBBS or the camp is informed in advance, children who have enrolled for camp and are “no shows” will not be eligible to attend camp in the future under the BBBS camp scholarship program.
  • Transportation TO AND FROM camp is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

If you have any further questions, please contact Abbey Tahash at tahash@bbbsgreatlakesbay.org.

COVID-19 Considerations

Unfortunately, we still have to consider the impact the COVID-19 pandemic will have on summer camps this year. While we anticipate many camps returning to operations similar to pre-2020, we cannot guarantee that all camps will meet as currently scheduled. Therefore, if your child is interested in a certain type of camp experience, or attending a camp for a specific area of study, we are asking you to include that information on your application in the area provided. This way if your child’s camp is cancelled due to the pandemic, we can attempt to find another suitable camp.

Just like the camps we work with, BBBS is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for each child we serve. Therefore, in order for your child to be considered for a camp scholarship, they must be willing and able to follow every mask, social distancing, vaccine and other safety protocol set by the camp(s) they wish to attend. Each camp will have different protocols in place, and we ask that you familiarize yourself with those protocols by visiting their website, or contacting the camp organizers before applying for a scholarship.
